Hunting and Service Dogs

Service Dogs

The Australian Labradoodle breed was created around 1970 by the Guide Dog Association to create an allergy friendly service dog. This was the start to the Australian, multi-generation Labradoodle as we know it today.

We define service dogs as a dog that assists a person or persons with disabilities, the disability can range from Autism, to Multiple Sclerosis, to Deafness.  Assistance Dogs not only provide a specific service to their handlers, but also greatly enhance their lives by increasing freedom and independence.

Australian Labradoodles have outstanding temperaments, and many have made great service dogs.  We temperament test all of our Australian Labradoodles prior to placing them as service dogs, and understand the importance of both matching the puppy with the owner, and selecting a puppy that can handle a wide variety of circumstances, which is critical to being a service companion.

Hunting Dogs

At Killara Ridge, our pups are born and raised on our property in Oregon that has open fields, wooded areas and natural streams.  Our dogs are exposed to birds, which gives us a chance to pick only the best for our breeding program. It is a fact that many “game” dogs are not really hunted, but our hunting dogs work birds.

We are one of the only Labradoodle Centers in the World breeding the dogs specifically for their hunting abilities. We have trained and owned hunting dogs, and you simply won’t find another breeder of quality Labradoodles with this background anywhere! We have traveled to observe the Australian Labradoodles that are the foundation of our lines, and we have imported some of the highest quality bloodlines from Australia.

It is our mission to provide healthy, intelligent, socialized pups that are very trainable and manageable with the temperament and personality that makes them outstanding field and family dogs. We know our dogs, we know their personalities and their hunting ability.

Our dogs are known for their calm temperament, desire to please, and natural game-finding ability. If you hunt pheasants, grouse, quail, or other upland birds, and also hunt waterfowl, an Australian Labradoodle is the dog for you. Labradoodles excel in all aspects of upland hunting as well as waterfowl retrieving. When Labradoodles were not out in the field, they are ready and willing companions. just as happy sitting by your side near the fireplace to make an outstanding well-rounded personality

We breed hunting dogs in medium and standard sizes; In the field, the smaller, medium, size makes them excellent hunting dogs with good stamina; Our larger dogs also have good stamina, and are the size of a Labrador Retriever.
